As bathrooms are increasingly becoming sanctuaries in hotel design, product development in the wellness area has gone one step further. Hamish Kilburn, editor-in-chief of Hotel Designs, looks back at some of the groundbreaking bathroom products launched in 2023…
Although design is by and large subjective when it comes to bathrooms, there is no doubt that without the specification of quality products – and the bold innovation of manufacturers – there would be no “statement bathroom”. For years, interior designers, architects and even hotel guests have understood that hotel bathrooms have to be more than just practical rooms.
In 2023, the hotel design industry has been pampered with a variety of new bathroom products – from jewelry-like faucets to smart showers, from colorful and obscure sinks to the latest bathroom experiences with a shower.
Here is the choice of the editor of Hotel Designs for the products that had the greatest impact.
Ohtake cymbals, designed by the late architect Ruy Ohtake, are the cornerstone of the Roca collection due to their eye-catching design. In honor of the famous designer, Roca launched a new countertop design, adding a matte black finish to the range.
Ruy Ohtake, one of Brazil’s most prolific architectural designers, is known for incorporating radical curves and round shapes into his timeless and elegant designs. The original award-winning cymbals do not disappoint and the new design is no exception. To create it, Roca reversed the original shape to create a sculptural design carved in a square outline for an innovative version of the countertop washbasin. All washbasin models are available in six existing finishes: glossy white, matte white, pearl, beige, coffee and onyx, as well as the new matte black finish.
Perle originated from Gessi’s concept of “high culture”, which celebrates nature in its forms and materials and increases the quality of design at the highest level. The new Gessi pearl collection summarizes the meanings and characteristics of jewelry that represent both elegance and sophistication. Just as the pearl is the most perfect and rare form of nature, the sphere that scores every element of the collection is a symbol of purity and the result of thorough research.
Based on the maxim that good design has to be honest, the clear, design-oriented lines of all products stand out in the entire KEUCO AXESS barrier-free range of the Porsche Studio – starting with the foldable support rail over the shower rail system, the grab handles to the freestanding stool. The design focuses on the essentials and combines aesthetics and barrier-free functionality in an elegant and innovative way, without making special functions visually visible. It is this aspect that will pleasantly surprise design lovers who want to see the accessibility in the bathroom and minimalist-looking products with an inspiring design.
